BISP PMT Score Check 2026 (8171)

The 8171 check does not show a PMT number. Send your 13-digit CNIC to 8171 or use 8171.bisp.gov.pk, and the reply tells you whether your household's NSER score is within BISP's cut-off of 32, or 37 with a differently-abled member. The number itself is only visible in person or on Punjab's housing portal.

What is a PMT score, and who calculates it?

A PMT score is a 0 to 100 welfare rating that the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) gives each household from its National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) survey. PMT stands for Proxy Means Test. A lower score means a poorer household, and the BISP Board sets each programme's cut-off based on the money available.

The test does not ask for your income directly. A 2024 World Bank review of BISP explains that the first survey, in 2010, collected 23 household variables in three groups: family characteristics, durable goods and housing, and productive assets such as land, livestock and farm equipment. NADRA entered and verified that data and calculated the first scores, and NSER records are still checked against NADRA, so your CNIC and family registration feed straight into the result.

  • BISP's NSER page lists what the registry now records: education, employment, disability, health, housing, water and sanitation, energy, agriculture, livestock, and internet and asset ownership.
  • Because the score reads assets and living conditions, a family with a low cash income can still score above the cut-off.
  • The score belongs to the household, not to one person, so every adult's CNIC and every child's B-Form matter.
  • Many people still search for an 'Ehsaas program PMT score'. The Ehsaas cash programmes now run under BISP and use the same NSER score.

Does the 8171 check show your PMT score?

No. The official 8171 portal asks for only two things, your CNIC number and a picture code, and its heading invites you to learn about your household's eligibility. PakBenefits checked the page on 17 October 2026 and found no score field. The SMS reply from 8171 works the same way and returns a status message.

Some websites claim the portal displays your 'poverty score' or payment amount. It does not show a score. The 2024 World Bank review also describes 8171 as a status check: when about 2 million households lost eligibility after the 2021 NSER update, BISP did not send them letters or texts, and instead made the web portal and the 8171 SMS available for families to check their status.

How to run the 8171 check by CNIC

Use the CNIC of the woman registered in your household's survey. Neither route asks for a password, PIN or fee.

  • Step 1: Open 8171.bisp.gov.pk and check that the address ends in bisp.gov.pk.
  • Step 2: Type the 13-digit CNIC number without dashes.
  • Step 3: Enter the code shown in the picture and submit.
  • Step 4: Read the eligibility message and note its exact wording.
  • Step 5: No internet? Send the same 13-digit CNIC as an SMS to 8171 and wait for the reply.

What the 8171 result tells you about your score

The message tells you which side of the cut-off your household falls on, or why no score exists yet. BISP can change the wording, so match the meaning rather than the exact words.

Where can you see your actual PMT number?

Only a few official screens show a number, and none of them is a public lookup for everyone. In Punjab, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar portal, built by the Punjab Information Technology Board, has a 'PMT Score Result' page for signed-in applicants. It lists the applicant's PMT score, PMT date, BISP beneficiary status and housing-scheme eligibility, and tells unregistered users to visit an NSER office.

Outside that portal, several guides report that staff at a BISP tehsil office can read the NSER record held for your CNIC. BISP does not advertise this as a service, so treat it as a request rather than a right, and bring your original CNIC.

What PMT score do you need? Cut-offs by programme

For Benazir Kafaalat, BISP's quarterly cash payment, the cut-off is 32. The BISP Board approved it at its 52nd meeting on 23 September 2021, with a relaxed cut-off of 37 for households with a differently-abled member. For transgender persons whose CNIC records their gender as transgender, BISP relaxes the cut-off once the survey is complete.

Other schemes reuse the same NSER score with their own limit. Punjab's Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing loan accepts households with an NSER PMT score of 60 or less, according to the Punjab government's programme page. Cut-offs move with budgets: when BISP first moved to poverty scorecards in 2011 the Kafaalat cut-off was 16.17, so always read a threshold with its date.

What counts as a good PMT score?

PMT score check in Sindh, Punjab and KPK

The 8171 check works the same in every province because NSER is a national registry that BISP runs from Islamabad. A household in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan or Azad Kashmir uses the same CNIC check and the same tehsil-office survey as one in Punjab.

Punjab is the one province with a second registry. The Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER) collects data for some provincial schemes, but guides that compare the two note that a PSER entry does not change your NSER score or your 8171 result. Check which registry your scheme names before you queue for a survey.

How does the NSER dynamic survey create or update your score?

Your score is created or refreshed only by the NSER dynamic survey at a Benazir Registration Desk. The World Bank counted 647 dynamic registration centres in 2024, at least one in every tehsil. The survey is free, an adult household member answers the questions, and NADRA verifies identity during the visit.

BISP's NSER page sets out the update types the dynamic registry handles, from CNIC corrections to full re-surveys, and plans a new PMT calculation after each full update.

  • Corrections: missed information, CNIC updates and record discrepancies, handled on an ongoing basis.
  • Family changes: births, deaths, marriage, gender or disability status, linked to NADRA.
  • Shock re-surveys: areas notified by the NDMA or a PDMA after a disaster.
  • Regular re-surveys: non-beneficiary households every two years, and beneficiaries recertified every three years.

Why is your PMT score above 32, and what can change it?

A score above 32 usually reflects what the survey recorded about your assets and living conditions, or a record that is out of date. BISP's NSER page says exclusion filters such as vehicle ownership and frequent air travel are used to profile households, and an old survey can miss a death, a disability or a lost job.

Only a genuine change and a new survey can move the score. Nobody can edit it for a fee. If your household has grown, someone has died or become disabled, or the main earner has lost work, ask the tehsil office for a re-survey and keep the token slip.

Eligible on 8171? What happens to your payment next

A result within the cut-off leads to Benazir Kafaalat, paid every quarter to the woman of the household. BISP raised it to Rs 14,500 per quarter from 10 March 2026 (BISP Press Release No. 20). A June 2026 BISP briefing reported a planned rise to Rs 18,000 from January 2027, which was still a plan when this guide was checked.

Payments are released after a fingerprint check under BISP's Biometric Verification System, and BISP is moving beneficiaries to a Social Protection Wallet on a free SIM. If 8171 says eligible but no money arrives, or an agent deducts cash, complain on the free helpline 0800-26477 or at your tehsil office.

How to avoid PMT score scams

The only official SMS number is 8171, and official BISP web addresses end in bisp.gov.pk; Punjab's housing portal ends in punjab.gov.pk. Any website or app that charges to 'show' or 'improve' your PMT score is not a government service.

  • Never pay anyone to raise your eligibility or lower your score.
  • Never share an OTP, PIN or fingerprint outside an official payment point.
  • Ignore messages from numbers other than 8171 that promise money or ask for fees.
  • Treat 'PMT score check' apps as unofficial, even when they show BISP logos.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check my PMT score online by CNIC?

Not as a number on a public site. The 8171 portal and SMS check by CNIC show only whether your household is eligible. Signed-in applicants to Punjab's Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme can see a PMT score on that portal's result page.

Does the 8171 SMS reply include the PMT score?

No. The reply gives an eligibility or survey status for the CNIC you sent. A message that quotes a score and asks for a fee did not come from BISP.

What PMT score is needed for BISP?

32 or below for Benazir Kafaalat, or 37 or below if a household member is differently abled. The BISP Board set these limits in September 2021 and can revise them.

Is a high or a low PMT score better?

A low score is better for welfare eligibility. The scale runs from 0 to 100, and a lower score means the survey found a poorer household.

Who calculates the PMT score, BISP or NADRA?

BISP calculates it from NSER survey data using a fixed formula. In the first survey in 2010-11, NADRA entered the data and calculated the scores, and NADRA still verifies the identity and family records the survey relies on.

How can I do an 8171 PMT score check in Sindh?

Use the same national routes as everyone else: send your CNIC to 8171 or use 8171.bisp.gov.pk. Sindh has no separate BISP score, and the survey is done at BISP tehsil offices across the province.

How do I check my PMT score in Punjab?

For BISP, use 8171 like every other province. If you applied for Apni Chhat Apna Ghar, sign in at acag.punjab.gov.pk to see the PMT score result page linked to your application.

How long after a re-survey will my 8171 result change?

BISP does not publish a fixed timeline. The new score is calculated after NADRA validates the survey data, so check 8171 again after a few weeks and keep your survey token in case you need to follow up.

Can an agent or a website change my PMT score?

No. The score changes only through an NSER survey at a BISP office, and the survey is free. Anyone charging to raise your eligibility is running a scam; report it on 0800-26477.

Why does 8171 say I am not eligible when my family is poor?

The score measures assets and living conditions, not only income, and your survey may be out of date. If your circumstances have changed since the survey, ask the tehsil office for a re-survey.

Does the PMT score affect Taleemi Wazaif?

Yes, indirectly. Benazir Taleemi Wazaif is for the children of active Kafaalat beneficiaries, so the household first has to qualify for Kafaalat through its PMT score.

What should I do if 8171 says my survey is needed?

It means BISP holds no current NSER record for that CNIC. Take the original CNICs of all adults and the B-Forms of all children to the Benazir Registration Desk at your BISP tehsil office.
