What is the KP Internship Programme 2026?

The KP Internship Programme 2026 is a new paid internship scheme from the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It will give 20,000 graduates practical training in workplaces across the province, instead of classroom learning alone. The programme will run for three months for each selected graduate. Placements will sit mainly with private sector host organisations, so the training should match what the market needs now. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has proposed a total cost of Rs 2 billion for the initiative, which covers the stipends and the cost of running it.

When was it announced?

The announcement came in a meeting in Peshawar in the first week of November 2026, and it was reported by Dawn on 6 November 2026. A briefing on the proposed initiative was given to Dr Aamer Abdullah, adviser to the KP Governor on education and social welfare. Attribute the launch to the briefing to him, not to the Chief Minister. The meeting also included Fazal Hussain, Special Secretary for Higher Education, Archives and Libraries, and Prof Zahoor Jan of Islamia College University Peshawar. The Higher Education Department will now develop the detailed guidelines for selection, training and placement.

How much will interns be paid?

Each selected graduate will receive Rs 30,000 per month for three months. That figure is the same in Dawn, ProPakistani and Bloom Pakistan, so you can rely on it. The stipend is paid to the intern, not to the host organisation.

Over the three months, each intern will receive Rs 90,000 in total. That is simple arithmetic: Rs 30,000 times three months equals Rs 90,000. The total cost of the programme has been proposed at Rs 2 billion. That number is a proposal, not a final audited spend. If all 20,000 interns complete three months at Rs 30,000 a month, the stipends alone come to Rs 1.8 billion, which leaves about Rs 200 million inside the proposed Rs 2 billion for running costs, the portal, mentors and administration.

Who can apply for the KP Internship Programme 2026?

Only two eligibility rules have been confirmed so far. First, you must hold a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa domicile. Second, you must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0. Those are the two requirements Dawn, ProPakistani and Bloom Pakistan all report, and no other degree rule has been announced with them.

The domicile rule means the programme is for graduates who belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. If your domicile is from another province, you do not meet this rule. The CGPA rule is a minimum of 3.0 on the usual 4.0 scale used by Pakistani universities. The announcement does not say whether a percentage mark can be used instead of a CGPA, so do not assume that it can.

The programme will reserve 50 percent of places for men and 50 percent for women. That is 10,000 places for men and 10,000 places for women if all places are filled. Both groups must meet the same domicile and CGPA rules. No age limit has been announced yet, and no graduation year requirement has been announced yet either. Do not trust a site that gives you an age limit or a cut off year for this programme unless it links to an official announcement.

If you answered no to domicile or to the CGPA rule, you do not meet the announced criteria. If you answered yes to both, you are in the eligible group on the facts known today. Your next step is to prepare your documents and to watch for the official portal announcement.

Where will interns be placed?

Interns will be placed in industries, software houses, business establishments and other organisations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government will give first priority to private sector host organisations. Private employers set the pace for hiring, so a placement there should teach the skills that a job interview will test. Government departments, universities, colleges, semi autonomous bodies and non governmental organisations should also be considered for placements at later stages, according to Dawn.

Placements will cover all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with district wise representation in proportion to the population of each district. The exact district split has not been published yet.

Priority sectors at a glance

The announcement names 11 priority sectors. The table below groups them so you can see where your degree fits. If your degree is not in one of these groups, do not assume you are excluded. The announcement says graduates from key and emerging sectors, including these 11, should be covered. The word including leaves room for more sectors, but no extra sector has been named yet.

Sector groupNamed sectors in the groupWho it fits
Health and life sciencesPharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, healthcarePharmacy, medical, nursing and life science graduates
TechnologyInformation technology, software developmentComputer science, software engineering and IT graduates
Hospitality and tourismHospitality, tourism, master chef training, cultural tourismHotel management, culinary, tourism and hospitality graduates
Land and resourcesMining and minerals, agricultureAgriculture, mining, geology and related graduates

Mentors are part of the design. The centralised portal will cover mentors as well as graduates and host institutions, and Dr Aamer Abdullah called for a comprehensive database of qualified mentors, with their professional experience, profiles and other relevant credentials.

How do I apply for the KP Internship Programme 2026?

As of 8 November 2026, you cannot apply yet. No application link has been announced, and registrations have not started. Do not fill in a form on a site that claims to be the KP Internship Programme portal unless an official government source has published that link.

A centralised online portal has been developed for the programme. Dawn reports that the portal will cover graduate registration, host institutions, mentors, internship placements and access to other relevant information and services. ProPakistani and Bloom Pakistan add that officials are completing technical upgrades before the portal goes live, and that Dr Aamer Abdullah directed officials to complete the remaining work within one week of the announcement. That one week direction is a target for the officials, not a promise that registration will open on a set date. The announcement was made on 5 to 6 November 2026, so a one week target would fall around 12 to 13 November 2026, but no opening date has been confirmed.

What to prepare while you wait

  1. Check your domicile document and keep a clear scan of it.
  2. Get your transcript or degree proof that shows your CGPA clearly.
  3. Write a short CV that lists your degree, your CGPA, and any practical work you have done.
  4. Choose one or two sectors from the table above that match your degree.
  5. Watch for the official portal announcement, and check the link against an official source before you enter personal details.

Do not pay anyone for an application form, a guaranteed place, or early access to the portal. No official source has announced a fee, an agent, or a paid fast track. If someone asks you for money for this programme, treat it as a scam and do not share your CNIC, domicile, or bank details with them.

What happens after selection?

The Higher Education Department will develop detailed guidelines for candidate selection, training and placement. Those guidelines do not exist in public yet, so the selection method is still unknown. The announcement does not say whether selection will be by CGPA merit, by district quota, by a test, or by an interview.

Once the guidelines exist, selection should follow them, and placements should follow the district wise plan. The mentor database should then match each selected intern with a mentor in their sector. Stipend payment should be paperless and fully online, preferably paid on a single day for all interns.

Dr Aamer Abdullah also stressed a structured mechanism inside the Higher Education Department to define the responsibilities of all stakeholders and to ensure effective monitoring and accountability.

Is this the same as the older KP internships?

No. This is a new programme, and it is easy to confuse it with older KP internships that share the same stipend figure. Several KP programmes pay Rs 30,000 a month. The amount is the same, but the programme is not.

The best known older programme is the KP Digital Internship Program run by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board, known as KPITB. That programme runs for six months, not three, and it focuses on IT and digital fields. A separate KP Women Digital Internship Program for 2025-26 also runs for six months at Rs 30,000 a month, with applications through the JoinIT portal. Do not use their portal, their last date, or their eligibility rules for the new programme.

There is also an earlier proposal from April 2026 for BS students, reported by TechJuice on 14 April 2026. That proposal was for students still studying, with a duration of two to six months and a stipend of Rs 25,000 a month, discussed in a briefing to the Provincial Minister for Education, Meena Khan Afridi, about the Ehsaas Internship Program. Do not mix its Rs 25,000 figure into the new programme.

Punjab runs its own routes, such as the CM Punjab IT Internship Program 2026. For skills training, see the Punjab One Million Youth Skills Training programme. For KP youth finance, see the Ehsaas Naujawan Programme KP interest free loans guide, which covers loans, not internships.

What is still not announced?

No application link has been announced. No registration opening date has been announced. No last date has been announced. No age limit has been announced. No graduation year requirement has been announced. No degree subject list beyond the sector names has been announced. No selection method has been announced. No district wise seat split has been announced. No list of host organisations has been announced. No start date for the internships has been announced.

That list is the true state of the programme on 8 November 2026. Check official sources for the portal link, and ignore any link shared on social media without an official source.
