Two different components, often confused
Interest-free loans (aimed at small income-generating activity) and saving wallets (a savings mechanism tied to an Ehsaas beneficiary account, sometimes with a matched-contribution incentive) are separate components. Being eligible for one does not automatically mean you qualify for the other — check the specific criteria for each rather than assuming.
How the interest-free loan component works
These loans are disbursed through partner microfinance banks under terms set by the programme, typically aimed at existing beneficiary households wanting to start or grow a small income-generating activity. The application and credit assessment happens through the partner bank, not through a third-party 'agent'.
- Confirm the current partner bank list through BISP's official website before visiting any branch.
- A genuine loan officer will explain repayment terms clearly — walk away from anyone promising 'guaranteed approval' for an upfront fee.
- Loan size and terms can change between rounds, so treat any number from social media as unconfirmed until you see it at the partner bank.
How saving wallets work
A saving wallet is generally a mobile or branchless-banking account linked to a beneficiary's payment record, sometimes with an incentive for maintaining a balance. Setup should happen through an authorized bank or franchise using your existing BISP-linked CNIC, never through a link sent by an unknown sender asking you to 'activate' a wallet.
Before you commit to either
Read the full terms, ask what happens if a repayment is missed, and confirm the partner institution is named on BISP's official list. If any part of the offer arrives unsolicited by SMS or social media with pressure to act immediately, verify it independently before responding.
