How 8171 Portal Access Actually Works

Instead of a username-and-password account system, the 8171 portal verifies you using two pieces of information you already have: your CNIC number and a mobile-based OTP.

• Go to the official 8171 web portal.
• Enter your CNIC number (no dashes, digits only, in most versions of the portal).
• Submit the request and wait for an OTP to arrive via SMS on your registered mobile number.
• Enter the OTP when prompted.
• View your status result — Eligible, Not Eligible, Under Process, or Blocked.
• If you haven’t registered with BISP yet, none of this will return a result.

Why There’s No Traditional Account System

• Anyone asking for your OTP over a phone call — the real system never requires you to read your OTP aloud to a person; it’s for portal entry only.
